ROLE: Brand &

Event Photographer

Bass Warriors, a music collective known for their diverse artists and custom-built Sound System, hired me to document their brand ethos across two vastly different events. The challenge was extreme versatility: I had to solve two opposite and extreme lighting problems while capturing the same core story of “community” and “energy.”

My Approach & Solution (A Tale of Two Events):

Event 1: The Community Graffiti Day (Harsh Light Problem) The first event was a daytime charity fundraiser, plagued by harsh, direct, cloudless sun—the most unflattering light possible.

My solution was technical control. Instead of flat, blown-out images, I used a combination of ND filters and various lenses, while using environmental elements for “dodging” (blocking direct light) to sculpt the scene, preserving detail and capturing the vibrant, collaborative daytime effort.

Event 2: The San Juan Night Party (Low Light Problem)

The second event was a nocturnal party, with the main star being their hand-built Sound System in a very dark environment. A flash would have killed the atmosphere. My solution was to turn a technical limitation into a creative advantage.

I used a fast (wide-aperture) lens paired with a slow shutter speed. This technique not only gathered enough ambient light to show the scene, but intentionally introduced motion blur, creating dynamic, energetic images that felt like the party and conveyed that “sense of movement and energy” I was after.

Dark, atmospheric shot of assorted glasses and drinks on a bar or table, illuminated by a string of warm fairy lights.

The Outcome:

A complete visual narrative for the Bass Warriors brand.

I delivered two distinct galleries—one clean and vibrant, the other dark and energetic—that proved my technical mastery over any lighting condition.
More importantly, I provided them with authentic assets that captured the soul of their community, from their charity work to the raw energy of their hand-built sound system in action.
